I do believe that before exploring farther away from home, it is imperative of us to travel to a place nearer to where we reside. For one, it is cheaper and more accessible. Claver, Surigao del Norte is just a 6-hour land trip from Gingoog City. Hanggayabon Port in Claver is where you ride a pump boat going to Sohoton, Bucas Grande Island. When we travelled there, we left in Cagayan de Oro City around 11PM and arrived at the port around 5:30AM the next morning.
Actually, I only heard of Sohoton only this year. I told my sister of my plan of going to Surigao, specifically in Siargao one of this days. She then suggested to me of visiting to Sohoton. She even showed me a blog about a tour to Sohoton which peaked my interest of going there. It is easy to go to this place because as I said, it is near from where I live. I don't need to wait for a promo air fare since I don't have to ride an airplane. Me and my boyfriend have agreed that our way of celebrating our anniversary is to travel to new and beautiful places. And yes, I was the one who decided that we'd go to Surigao del Norte for our second anniversary. Since it was my wish that will be granted, I was the one who looked for a packaged tour going to the place; and gladly, I found a good one and I directly contacted the administrator.
Well, without so much blabbering, here's what we experienced of the tour. :)
As we road a pump boat, going to our first destination, we were already being awed by the beauty of Bucas Grande Island. That peaceful sea which is surrounded by several green islets is spectacular view.
It's a rare & beautiful view. |

Our first stop was the Bolitas and Crystal Cave. It was my first time ever in my life to enter a cave. Even though I am not a fan of caves, there was this inside of me screaming, "Finally! Finally, I got to be in a cave after seeing them just in the television!"
Before we entered, we payed Php50 for the entrance fee (it was excluded of our payment to the packaged tour). We were obliged to wear caps to secure safety and each one of us brought flashlights, which were provided by them.
We were lead by a lively teenager who had so much to say about the cave. It was so dark inside that flashlights were of help. I was amazed by the crystal-looking stalagmites and stalactites. Some of them form figures like dogs and other creatures. The guide told us to avoid touching the crystals so that they will keep on shining. Well, I'm not really sure but that was what I heard. Once you touched it, you won't see its sparks again. The crystal will die.
We didn't stay that long in the cave. It was hot in there and it seemed like the place was short of oxygen. And besides, we were excited for the main event! :)
